The earth has swallowed the snow
Снег поглотила земля;
Again we see the plum trees in blossom
Снова мы видим сливовых деревьев цветенье;
The new willow leaves are gold
Золотом ив отливает листва молодая,
The waters of the lake are silver
Блеском сребристым играет озёрная гладь;
Now the butterflies powdered with gold
Бабочки с пылью златою на крыльях
Lay velvet heads within the hearts of flowers
Главы сложили свои в сердцевинах цветочных.
In his still boat, the fisherman pulls up his dripping net
Тянет рыбак свои утлые сети в лодке своей неподвижной,
Rippling the still water
Водную зыбь возмущая,
He thinks of a girl at home, like a dark swallow in the nest
В думах о деве, что дома ждёт ласточкой чёрной в гнезде;
He thinks of a girl at home, waiting like a swallow for her mate
В думах о деве, что дома обратно любимого ждёт.
On this autumn evening, the white candlelight shines coldly on the painted screen
Пламенем бледным холодным свеча на оконной картине играет вечером этим осенним;
As she strikes the passing fireflies with her gossamer fan
Веером тонким своим отгоняет она светляков;
The color of the steps of the courtyard at night is like cold water
Цвета холодной воды отпечатки стопы на дворе этой ночью;
And she sits watching the herd boy dally with the spinning maiden
Сидя, глядит она, как развлекается с пряхой пастух…
